Trick to Try: DIY Christmas Decorations
Make your own decorations this year and have yourself a merry and crafty Christmas.
A DIY Christmas decoration makes for a personal and lovingly made addition to your home. We've rounded up the best Yuletide projects from our favourite DIYers and bloggers to help make your decor this year your own.
1. BYO Baubles
Make your own botanical baubles. Start with the clear glass baubles and do as The Crafted Life does, adding in small natural objects such as feathers, sprigs of holly and anything else that takes your fancy.
2. Snow Shaker
This one is worth its salt. Turn your cheap and cheerful salt shakers into a mini winter wonderlands by adding toy model evergreens and deers inside like this one from Country Living. If you'd prefer a larger Christmas snowscape, use a jam jar instead.
3. Ping Pong Pizzazz
Add a twist to your multicoloured LED fairy lights this year, by placing them in ping pong balls! Say Yes shows you how to make these ingenious lights with a step-by-step guide.
4. Starry Nights
Like jewellery for your tree, these wire stars are the glam way to do DIY decorations. Alyss and Carla take you through each step to create the template for the star-wire ornaments – your Christmas tree will look all the more dashing for these celestial additions, plus they'll last year after year.
5. Tassle Time
For all the minimalist lovers out there, these DIY wooden tassel baubles from Caitlyn and Miranda from The Merry Thought are so simple to make. Use bright whites to paint your patterns to keep the wooden baubles feeling natural, or if you want to add pops of colour, try mint greens, pinks or golds.
6. Winter Woodland
Mini pom poms, gold pipe cleaners, marker pens, oh my! These beauties give you all the excuses you need to raid your local art supply store. Super simple to make, these paper Christmas cone decorations from the Land of Nod allows you to get as creative as you (and your kids) like. Make a whole mini forest for the table, or line up your trees along the mantel piece.
