How to prepare your walls for painting

Want a flawless finish? Here’s how to prep your walls for painting.

  1. First, remove any nails and screws so you can start with a blank canvas.

    1. Fill any small holes and hairline cracks with a filler, such as Polycell Quick Drying Filler, which dries in ten minutes, sands easily and doesn't shrink or crack.

  2. Clean walls are really important. Wash them with Polycell Decorators Cleaner (or a detergent solution) and rinse with clean water afterwards to remove any residue.

  3. Lightly sand the walls using medium or fine grit paper for a smooth surface.

    1. Newly plastered wall or unpainted surface? These will need priming with a ‘mist’ coat. Just dilute a little paint with water in equal parts, and you’re ready to start painting!
